Lab Access (OE 270)

  1. After completing the courses above, contact Margarita Kotzer (mkhabins@fiu.edu) and ask for help setting up a Campus Optics account. Let her know you are joining the Marks Lab and need access to OE 270.
  2. Once you have a Campus Optics account, upload your course certificates under Campus → Spaces (All Spaces) → Lab OE-270 → Member.
  3. While on campus, request electronic access to OE 270 through myFacilities. This link does not work from off-campus internet connections.

Additional Resources

Look through these and let Dr. Marks know what you’re interested in learning more about or working with.

Building Scientific Apparatus
Chapters 3–8 cover many of the scientific tools we use in the lab.
The Astrochymist
Dr. David Woon’s site, the best central resource for anyone interested in astrochemistry. Updated weekly on Mondays with links to the latest chemistry-focused papers in astronomy and laboratory astrophysics. It also lists all known interstellar molecules, useful books, relevant journals, and pre-publication releases.
The Green Library Databases
The resources labelled “Best Bet” are labelled that way for a reason. Make sure you have accounts with SciFinder Scholar (set this up while on campus) and Web of Science (Science Citation Index). SciFinder is best for finding literature on a specific chemical; Web of Science is best for a topic.
Software
Familiarity with any of the following is a valuable skill in physical chemistry research: Python, Wolfram Mathematica, MATLAB, SIMION, Gaussian, EndNote, OriginLab, SSH agents, COMSOL.
